1st John 5: 13-14
I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us.
On Friday, May 30, 2025, Joyce Banninga passed away in her 91st year at Marshall Gowland Manor, with her family by her side. Joyce is lovingly remembered by her children Karen (Gerry), Rick, and daughter-in-law Ingrid. She was a proud grandmother and great-grandmother to her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her siblings Lies Prange, Jake VanderHeide, Tine VanderWal, and Coba Rienstra. Joyce was predeceased by her beloved husband of 69 years, John Banninga, her sons Marvin, Jack, and Kenneth and her grandson Keith. Also predeceased by her parents Jentje and Klaasje VanderHeide, sisters-in-law Gerdy Banninga, Annette Banninga, and Remi VanderHeide, brothers-in-law Arthur Banninga and Art Prange, as well as many relatives in the Netherlands. Joyce was an outgoing woman. Faithful to her Heavenly Father, her husband and her family. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life on the farm, trips to the Bluewater Bridge and walking or biking along country roads. She loved singing, whether in choirs or at social gatherings with her guitar. She was always eager to volunteer her time. Family gatherings and church events brought her great joy and her famous groente soup was shared and enjoyed by many. In their retirement, Joyce and John were grateful to travel several times to Europe and Florida. She kept a beautifully maintained homestead and was known for visiting shut-ins, always bringing a small bouquet of flowers to brighten their day. Now at rest in the arms of her Heavenly Father, Joyce will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for the exceptional care provided to Mom over the past few years. A private interment will take place. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Sarnia Christian School (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
