It is with saddened hearts that the family announces the passing of Gregory (Greg) Burr on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at Bluewater Hospital, Palliative Unit after a short but courageous battle with cancer. He will be deeply missed by his treasured wife Kathryn (Kirkham) Burr of 42 years whom he cared for deeply. Greg will be reunited with his beloved late daughter, Jill (1987).
He will also be missed by cherished and loving daughter Nancy Burr Foley (Raymond) Ottawa; very proud Grandfather of “The Granddaughter” Hope Ryan (St. Catharines); dear brother of Richard (Marilyn); brother in law Doug Kirkham (Ann), nieces Katie, Kelly, Alex, and many extended family. Gregory is predeceased by his parents Johnny and Hazel Burr long-time owners of Praill’s Flower shop, and nephew Kevin Burr (1987). Greg grew up in Blackwell, and throughout his life, he was a positive, energetic person who was known for his wisdom, socializing, and compassion for others. He was a retired educator; proud teacher, principal, and physical education specialist with the Lambton Kent District School Board. He was a role model to many in the teaching community, and was adored by his students. Greg never truly retired as he continued to work in many different ventures. Avid dog lover, Greg found family in furry friends by opening Windywalk Kennel alongside his wife Kathy. Greg and Kathy bred and showed Airdale and Wheaten terriers.
Greg’s love of the outdoors and RVing was demonstrated by being an RV salesman, Sales and Marketing VP for Passport America and Canadian Ambassador for Workhorse Custom Chassis. Greg conveyed his love for hockey by being a Fundraiser Campaign Manager for the Sarnia Legionnaires, and the Director of Marketing and Consumer Sales for the Sarnia Sting, with his last position being the Progressive Auto Sales Area Suites and Arena Special Projects Fundraising Coordinator .
Greg had many interests and hobbies throughout his life, hockey, football, hydroplane boat racing, cycling, and he ran in multiple road races. Greg was an avid collector of various memorabilia. Greg and Kathy enjoyed their winters in Clearwater, Florida.
Deepest gratitude is extended to his cherished friends for their unfaltering love, help, and support. Special thanks to Dr O'Mahony, Maddison Hodgings RPN, Dr MacSweeney, Dr Crombeen and the Palliative team at Bluewater Health.
Cremation has taken place and A Celebration of Life will be held at Smith Family Centre, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with words of remembrance at 2:00 p.m. Sympathy can be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques only at the funeral home).
