With his kids by his side, Andy passed on July 1, 2024 after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. Much loved husband of the late Beth, wonderful father of Nonita (Jason), Vanitia, and Kurtis, and adored Gramps of Zaavan, Veya, Myrah, and Tyrin. He will also be greatly missed by his canine companion, Stella. Andy had a deep faith that he demonstrated by loving and caring for others, whether his kids or complete strangers. A talented handyman and perfectionist, Andy often told his family, “don’t pay for that, I can make a better version,” and he was always right. The family home is covered with such projects, from the hardwood floor, the cupboard doors, the trim, landscaping, and many refurbished and rebuilt small engines. Andy was a farmer with a deep respect for the land he worked, taking time and energy to care for his fields and woodlots. Little brought him more joy than watching the crops grow. Every year he planted a large garden that fed friends and family and filled the freezer each summer and fall. His favourite place on earth was the family cottage, which he poured his heart and soul into. Nearly every bit of work done at the cottage was done by Andy or by the kids under Andy’s careful supervision. Once the cottage was winterized, almost all time at home was spent planning the next trip up north. As an avid outdoorsman, Andy spent much of his time at the cottage back in the bush looking for ideal hunting locations and building the “Gramps Highway.” Andy shared his passions with his kids, teaching them how to fish and hunt, taking them on canoeing trips, teaching them to farm, and passing on his love and joy for spending time on the land. He looked forward to passing the same along to his grandkids and had worked hard to make the cottage a place that they love. Andy worked hard all his life working both full time at Imperial Oil and farming to make sure his family and kids had everything they ever needed and more. While we mourn his loss, the legacy that Andy left for his kids and grandkids and countless others will live on. Those who wish to express sympathy by donations may donate to the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques only at the funeral home please). A celebration of life will be planned for a later date.
