Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at Bluewater Health, Elie Esper Chawah passed away at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Nadia, and devoted father of Esper, Rita, Bob, and Joe; cherished grandfather of Maya, Vern, Hunter, Eli, Jamison, Kadin, and Kayla. Dear brother of Leila (Dave Boushy) and Renee (the late Jean Pierre) L'Homme, adored uncle of many nieces and nephews; he joins his beloved sister, Helen, and parents, Esper and Salime, who had predeceased him. He was always tinkering with things around the house or on his car, gardening, or exercising. He delighted in cooking with his wife, especially when barbecuing. When he finally slowed down for a break, he cherished quiet moments with the family dog, Tucker, whether on the back porch listening to Lebanese music or watching sports on TV. Above all else, he treasured time spent with his family, telling stories, and sharing food and drink. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, on Friday, December 13, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. To celebrate Elie’s life, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please), flowers may be sent to Smith Funeral Home.
