Kenneth “Kenny” Ferguson passed away in Petrolia following a brief illness. He was born on October 2, 1941, to Jean and David Ferguson in Cornwall, Ontario. Raised on the corner in Avonmore, many locals fondly remember him as “Hoe Handle”. Kenny married Arlene in 1986, but he lost the love of his life in 2004.
Kenny began his career as a lineman, working for his brother-in-law, Bernie Robertson, and he later concluded his career in Petrolia as an Ironworker, proudly belonging to the International Brotherhood of Ironworkers Local 700.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Douglas Dwayne and John David, and his brother Donald Grant, who survived him by just 14 hours. Kenny is survived by his sisters, Lois (Bernie) Robertson, Ila (Blaine) McElheran, nephews Scott Robertson, and Shawn (Janice) McElheran, and nieces, Karen (Bryan) Moran, and Lana (Alex) LeBlanc. He is also cherished by his great-nieces and great-nephews.
Kenny meant a great deal to many people. His love for a good country song, an open bottle of beer, Petrolia Line, and the freedom of the open road created lasting memories that we will all treasure. He will be deeply missed by many, including Terry, Rich, and Brian, but most of all by his best friend, Doug Robillard.
He will be laid to rest alongside his wife in Petrolia at Hillsdale Cemetery, but part of him will take one last ride home to Avonmore, where he will be interred with his brothers and parents at Paul’s Hill.
