She was predeceased by her parents, Herb and Olive van Buskirk, and her sister, Rita Mitchell (Oxford, NS).

Born and raised in Oxford, Nova Scotia, Nancy was a bright student who went on to graduate from Dalhousie University in 1969 with a degree in English and Psychology, followed by a B.Ed. in Special Education from Acadia University in 1970.

Nancy was a passionate and gifted educator. She devoted over 30 years to the Renfrew County school boards as a Special Education teacher and consultant. In addition, she taught Special Education courses to aspiring teachers at the University of Ottawa for several years.

Outside of her career, Nancy enjoyed reading, gardening, cooking, music, travel, and the companionship of her beloved pet, Willy.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Vision Nursing Home, particularly those on the Superior unit, for their outstanding professionalism and compassionate care during Nancy’s brief stay. Truly exceptional.
