With deep sadness we announce the passing of Dr. Rex Garrett on July 15th, 2025. Beloved husband of Marnie Garrett (Crnkovich). Brother to Sylvia Garrett (d) and Keith Squires, Kay Mott and husband Jim (d), Paul and Ann Garrett, Susan Macintyre and husband John (d), Mike and Wanda Garrett, Cindy Garrett. Dear brother in-law of Mary Crnkovich and Duncan Noble, Betty and Jim Grant, Francie and Steve Whitely (d). Predeceased by his parents Ivy and Rex Garrett, Mother and Father in-law Anne and Frank Crnkovich, step-daughter Susan Anne Meston, nephew James (Jimmy) Mott, and niece Eilidh Macintyre. He will be missed by several nieces, nephews, and multiple great nieces and nephews.
Rex was a family doctor for over 40 years to many families who truly loved him. He showed compassion in the care he provided for all his patients. Rex was a renaissance man. He was an expert fly fisherman mastering the art of tying flies, a carpenter and boat builder, an accomplished athlete of many sports, a naturalist who with his brother Mike cultivated indigenous trees and plants, nurturing many species of birds by building wood duck and blue bird nesting boxes on their Bruce County farm. Rex was also a skilled guitar player and singer.
The family is sincerely grateful to the healthcare providers at Bluewater Health for their exceptional care. Rex will be sadly missed by his family, friends and the many lives he
touched.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, Sunday, July 20, 2025, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, on Monday, July 21, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. A private family burial of ashes will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Sarnia.
