Peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Vision Nursing Home, Valde Patricia Getty went to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 87. Beloved wife of the late John Getty (2009). Loving mother of Brad and Greg (Kim). Cherished grandmother of Tanner (Keely), Taylor, Riley, Sydney, and Cayden. Dear sister of Linda Haslett. Pre-deceased by her parents, John Chesley and Mildred Haslett, and brothers Jimmy Haslett and John Haslett.
Val was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. An eventual move to Montreal and securing work as an airline stewardess, Val tasted the world. She met the love of her life and with John, raised their two sons in Montreal until 1976 when they moved to Sarnia. Val briefly worked in real estate, subsequently found work with Dow Chemical where she would eventually retire. In her leisure years Val enjoyed travel, camping and her volunteer work with the Canadian Cancer Society. Despite many and significant health challenges over the years, Val always kept that beautiful smile on her face and instinctively looked for the silver linings. She was a true inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to have spent time with her. Val will be remembered as a positive, fun-loving, caring, bright star with a deep spiritual connection. She adored her family, especially the time spent with her treasured grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Friday, April 11, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. with visitation one hour prior from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques only at the funeral home please).
