It is with deep sadness that we announce that Marilyn Hindmarch died peacefully on February 6th, 2025, at Marshall Gowland Manor, at the age of 80. Marilyn was surrounded by her loved ones during her final moments, including her devoted husband of 22 years, Manuel Romero, her two sons, Erik Paulsson (Tanya) and Michael Messinger (Julia), and her dear friend Cathy Power. Marilyn is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren, Freya and Arthur, her sister Loretta Wagner, and her niece Debbie and nephew Darin. She was predeceased by her parents, Jean and Gilman Hindmarch (of Hindmarch Landscaping), and her beloved cousin Sandra Boothe. A woman of great compassion and purpose, Marilyn dedicated much of her life to supporting non-profit causes that made a lasting impact on her community. Like her grandfather, she devoted her life to supporting the NDP, and served as the executive director for several organizations, including Oxfam Canada, the Cross- Cultural Communications Centre, and the Working Skills Centre for Immigrant Women. Marilyn’s career also took her abroad, where she spent many years in Cuba. There, she worked as an English translator for Prensa Latina in Havana for several years, and later lived part-time in her husband Manuel’s hometown of Las Tunas. Marilyn was an avid card player, and was often found around card tables playing Bridge, Euchre, and Rummy. Marilyn's family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Marshall Gowland Manor for their care and support during her time there. No memorial has yet been planned. In honor of Marilyn’s legacy and her lifelong commitment to humanitarian work, donations may be made to Oxfam Canada (cheques only, please) at the funeral home.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
