Peacefully on Tuesday, March 5, at Twin Lakes Terrace, Frank Janes passed away at the age of 102. Beloved father of Don Janes and his wife Jane. Cherished grandfather of Heather Janes (Don), and Michael Janes (Nicole). Treasured great-grandpa of Ophelia Gray, Indiana Gray, and William Janes. He is survived by several nieces and nephews. He is also the beloved Uncle of Lynden and Wayne Therriault. Frank was predeceased by his dear wife Edith in 2009 and special friend Illa in 2022. He was also predeceased by his mother and father, Ernest and May Ada Janes, his brother, George Janes and his sister, Elsie Janes. Frank was a special man. His first job was as an electrician and this came in quite handy as he built his own home in 1953 and lived there for 70 years. He was very proud of his career as a Railroad Engineer with the CNR from 1945 -1983. This is where he met Edith his wife of 63 years. Once he retired, he loved the freedom of never having to set his alarm clock again. He enjoyed his many trips around the world with Edith. Once the grandchildren were born, there was always a yearly trip with Heather and Michael. He loved his gardening and would start to plan in January with the seed catalogue and continue until harvest in the fall. He grew many fruits and vegetables, but his pride and joy was in his flower gardens, especially his tulips. He always said they made “a nice showing”. Special thanks to The Village On The St. Clair, and Twin Lakes Terrace, who made his final years so comfortable. Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Frank’s wishes, a private service will be held when the tulips are blooming. Sympathy may be expressed to the Salvation Army in Canada (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
