It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Catherine Lafond, who left us peacefully on November 6, 2025, at the age of 81, after a long and courageous battle with dementia.
Catherine was a devoted mother to Michael Lafond (Pam Moore) and Robert Lafond (Lynn Mcrae), and a proud grandmother to Brandon, Robyn, Corey, Tyler, and honorary granddaughter Abby. Great grandmother of Levi and Edison. She is also survived by her loving sister Shirley Fennel, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will cherish her memory.
She was predeceased by her parents, Harriet and Arthur Temple, and her siblings Mary, Violet, and Bill.
Catherine spent her final years at Sumac Lodge, where she received compassionate care and found comfort in the friendship of her dear roommate, Lola. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff at Sumac Lodge for their kindness, patience, and dedication throughout her journey.
In her younger years, Catherine worked as a crossing guard in the 1970’s, keeping children safe each morning, and later retired as a flower delivery driver, spreading joy and beauty across the community. She loved her dogs, especially her loyal companion Charlie, and found peace in life’s simple pleasures—listening to her oldies country music every Sunday morning and watching her favourite western movies.
Catherine will be remembered for her generous heart, her sense of humour, and the way her door was always open to anyone in need. Her warmth and unconditional love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home – London Line Chapel, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Alzheimer’s Society of Sarnia-Lambton or Sarnia District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home please).
