With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of a dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and colleague June Machacek, on Wednesday, January 7, 2026, at the age of 68. Beloved wife of Kevin Machacek. Loving mother of Jason Machacek and his wife Jayla and Amanda Mair and her husband Colin. Treasured Grammy of Oakley June Mair and Ava Mair. June was the youngest of 9 siblings; Barb Everitt (the late Bob), Betty Smith (the late Grant), Bob Wilmott (Minetta), the late Janet Cook (Jarvis), the late Margie Zruna (the late John), Judy Forsyth (late Bob), Brenda Bourdeau (the late Brian), and John Wilmott (Kathryn). June was also blessed with many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. Predeceased by her parents Norman “Spike” and Mary Wilmott.
June had a successful and lengthy 48-year career as a Class 1 Funeral Director. Graduating from Humber College in 1978, one of three women in a class of over 100 students, June was a trailblazer for women in this field. She worked at various funeral homes in the Toronto and Chatham-Kent areas until 1991 when she joined former classmate Don Smith at Smith Funeral Home in Sarnia where she has since remained. Over the course of her career, June was a mentor to many. She shared her knowledge and skills in a kind and patient way both with colleagues and funeral director interns who were fortunate to call her their preceptor.
June was an avid Toronto Blue Jays fan, she loved family lunches and gatherings in Dresden, and she enjoyed sitting under the Bluewater Bridge taking in the scenery. Being a mom and more recently a Grammy brought June so much joy.
Cremation has taken place. Family and friends will be received at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Saturday, January 17, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held directly following visitation at 12:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Parkinson Canada (cheques only when donating at the funeral home please).
