It is with deeply saddened hearts that the family announces the peaceful passing of Andrzej “Andrew” Kazimierz Mika on Thursday, December 11, 2025, at Bluewater Health ICU, Sarnia, at the age of 70, surrounded by his family whom he loved to no end. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 47 years, Urszula, and his daughters, Magdalena Mika and Anna Pautler (Michael).
Cherished Dziadzia (grandfather) of Miles, Theo, and Audrey, all of whom he adored.
Survived by his sister, Hanna Wietecha (Tomasz) and his niece, Agnieszka, and nephews, Maciej and Jakub.
Predeceased by his parents, Matylda and Władysław Mika.
Andrew was born in Poland in 1955, and moved to Canada with his wife and daughters in 1992. It was one of the biggest but best decisions that he and his wife made, and he was extremely proud of the life and family that they built.
He was an academic in Poland in the field of mathematics, earning his PhD and teaching there for 14 years, before moving to Sarnia, where he was a professor at Lambton College for over 20 years. He was well known and respected at the college by staff, colleagues, and his students.
Andrew had a deep passion and aptitude for mathematics and enjoyed doing puzzles, quizzes, as well as crosswords in his free time. He was highly intelligent and sharp until the last day of his life, remembering impressive facts about history, geography, and sports. Andrew will be remembered for his great sense of humour, storytelling, love of music, and a penchant for remembering everyone’s important dates.
He loved to joke, often with a distinctive, slightly offbeat sense of sarcasm. In the classroom, he struck a balance between discipline and friendliness, which earned him the respect of his students and the admiration of fellow teachers. Above all, he treasured time spent with family, especially during Christmas, which he loved in all its Catholic traditions. Those moments were made even more special as he enjoyed classic home-cooked meals very much, with traditional Polish dishes holding a particularly dear place in his heart.
In keeping with Andrew’s wishes, no services will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will follow in 2026. Sympathy may be expressed through donations in his honour to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
