Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Monday, July 21, 2025, at Marshall Gowland Manor, Garfield “Garry” Miller passed away at the age of 88. Beloved husband of Claudia Miller for 24 years. Loving father of Diana (Dave) Maitland and Garfield (Ginny) Miller II, and step-father of James (Eli) Morris, Bob (Joann) Morris, Michael (Julie) Morris and Christine Graham. Cherished grandfather of Jodi (Steve) Rawcliffe, Paul (Lana) Maitland, Andrea Adams, Dale Maitland, Bernie (Amber) Hillock, Sharlene Hillock, Crystal (Mike) Kenny, Choline Miller (Elyse), Matthew (Kristal), Jason (Hannah) and Brian Morris, Kayla (Jordan) Smith, Derek Graham (Leslie), and Cassandra (Collin) Turkiewicz. Treasured great-grandfather of Alexis Rosandich, Jaxon Rawcliffe, Emma and Samantha Maitland, Isaac Hillock, Alonso Garcia, Sabrynah and Michael Kenny, Mercedez Nickels and Jaelyn and Leah Smith; and great-great grandfather of Scarlett and Sebastian Graham. He will be missed by his brother-in-law Rick Foster, many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Garry has been reunited with his first wife Marilyn Miller, children Geoffrey, Paul, Michael and Christine Miller, grandson Geoffrey Miller and granddaughter Katherine Nickels. Also predeceased by his parents Garnet and Majorie Miller and sister Joan.
Garry was a devoted member of Dunlop United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion- Sarnia Branch and volunteered as a driver for the Canadian Cancer Society for many years. He was well-read, excelled at Jeopardy and was a wonderful conversationalist. Garry loved sports and was an avid fan of the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He and Claudia enjoyed their Friday nights at “The Krystal” in Port Huron and Sunday drives down the St. Clair River, often popping in on friends and family.
Garry’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff at Marshall Gowland Manor for the care and compassion shown throughout his time there, especially over his last few days.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer Society – Sarnia/Lambton or the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques only at the funeral home please).
