It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the tragic passing of Shawn Forrest Southern on Monday, January 5, 2026 at the age of 50. He will be dearly missed by his children James (Brooke) and their son Kane, and Sam; by his siblings Chris (Kim) Southern, Allison Southern (Belmiro Liberato), and Eric Southern; by his nieces and nephews Corey (Julia) and their children Charlie and Adeline, Cassie, Josh, Ashley, Nathan, Natalie, Kyra, Isaac, and Xavier; by his mother Joyce Southern (late Kenneth-2016); and by his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Shawn pursued his passions and his relationships with wholehearted commitment, be it his unbridled love for his sons and grandson, his personal relationships, friends, family, or his obsession with GI Joe and World Wars where his views were divided with equal zest for the Allied Forces, and Cobra. He was always happy to lose light-saber battles to his nephews.
Shawn was unmatched in his capacity and devotion to love. He was one-minded in his pursuit and every person that had the opportunity to know him was forever altered for the better. You could tell that he loved you beyond all reason and logic. Even when you were in a room full of others that felt the same about him. Shawn didn’t only make friends, he was devoted to his friends with such dedication that he made friends for his friends and gave them relationships that last for life, with people who may never have met without him.
Shawn’s focus was always his family first. But he will be missed and remembered for his love of his work and volunteerism by countless peers and coworkers that all called him a friend or loved one as well. Especially those with Entegrus in St. Thomas, and the staff at the City of Sarnia. He cherished the time that he gave volunteering with his brothers in Kin Canada and his dedication to The College of Chiropractors of Ontario. Shawn could, and very often did, spend countless hours telling humorous and touching stories about to his non-work-related friends and family in all of these aspects of his life. When you became his friend, you were his extended family.
Shawn spent most of his life battling valiantly against his own darkness. It is a battle that only the people he held the absolute closest regard for knew anything about. His battles were lifelong and relentless and he lost only once.
The family is reminding those who are reading this to always reach out for help in times of struggles, and to hold your loved one’s just a little bit tighter today and every day. Visitation will be held at the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570) on Thursday, January 15, 2026 from 2:00 – 5:00pm. Words of remembrance will be shared at 4:00 pm.
