STRUYF, Lucia "Lucy" Gabriel (neé VanMassenhoven) – Peacefully with family, by her side, at Strathmere Lodge, on July 26, 2024 at the age of 90.
Beloved wife of the late James "Jim" Struyf (2002). Loving mother of Linda (Bill) Vandenberg, Gary (Sylvia) Struyf, Brenda (Phil Smith), and Carol (Rick) Veens. Adored grandmother of Vanessa, Ryan (Mary), Jennifer, Jeff (Tory), Jillian (Dan), Julia, Andrew (Nicole), Alicia (Garren), and Brent. Cherished great-grandmother of 14 great-grandchildren. Lucy is survived by her siblings Joe (Carol) and Magda (Andre). Lucy is predeceased by her parents and siblings John and Elizabeth VanMassenhoven, Maria (Ken MacRae), Corneilius (Adriana), Gus (Cora) and Frans (Ingrid).
Lucy's unwavering strength, dedication, and patience were a guiding light for her family. She embodied the values of resilience and love, and we will carry these lessons forward with us for the rest of our lives. Beloved by friends and family alike, Mom cherished every visit and thrived in the company of her loved ones. She immigrated from Belgium to Canada in 1949 at the age of 16. She overcame many obstacles in a long and amazing life. Her courage and determination were boundless, proving that where there's a will, there's a way.
Her legacy will forever live in our hearts. Mom is now reunited with her husband Jim, her Mother, Father, Siblings, and many friends and family who have gone before her. She remains a shining light in our lives and will be deeply missed.
A Visitation will take place at Gilpin Funeral Chapel, 183 Broad Street, Parkhill on July 30th, 2024. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on July 30th, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parkhill. A Private Family Interment will take place following the mass.
