SYER, Helen

Helen Margaret Syer of Petrolia died peacefully with her family by her side at Bluewater Health in Sarnia after a brief illness. Helen was predeceased by her husband Lyle in 2014. Beloved and caring mother to Arnold (Ruth) Syer and Christine (Lee) Bright. She was the only daughter of the late Robert and Kate McLean. She was predeceased by her only sibling, Cameron McLean. Devoted grandmother to Erin (Bren) Horwood, Jim (Stacy) Bright, Kami (Will) Wilson, Kevin (Natalie) Syer, Jen (Corey) Leckie. Proud Great-Ma to Noah, Ava, Spencer, Alivia, Max, Parker, Kingston, Rachael, Kurtis, Harrison, Violet, Lilliana and Cooper.

Helen was a very reserved woman with an unwavering devotion to her children, 5 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Mother was educated as a teacher and maintained a lifelong connection with her high school and normal school friends. Her faith was dear to her heart and was evident by her steady attendance in church or viewing the services on TV. Her handmade quilts, aprons, potholders and oven mitts, knitted hats and mitts for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren will be forever treasured. She had a memory that amazed everyone. She was able to recall dates and events of many important moments in her lifetime that left most of us in awe. Mother always remembered each family member’s birthday with a card and a handwritten note to let you know that you were special to her.

The family would like to express their thanks to her niece Laurie Syer for the weekly FaceTime calls to their mother that meant so much to her. Also, we want to thank her niece and nephew, Wendy and Doug McLean and their family for their love and visits.
