It is with saddened hearts that the family announces the passing of Thecla “Thea” Van Wanrooy (née Schoutsen) on Wednesday, September 17th, 2025, at the age of 88.
Thea was the loving mother of Tina Ferguson (William) and Lisa Van Wanrooy, and a cherished Oma to Kyle (Megan), Ian (Nicole), Scott (Kristin), and Emily. She was especially proud to be a great-Oma to little Arlow, and was delighted knowing two more great-granddaughters were on the way. Thea was predeceased by her husband Martin Van Wanrooy (1994).
Resourceful and hardworking, Thea poured love into everything she did. She had a gift for sewing, knitting and crocheting, often making thoughtful pieces for those she loved. A curious and intelligent woman, Thea was well-read and always kept up with current events. She also loved a good board game or round of cards—whether at the table with friends and family or tapping away on her iPad.
Thea’s strength, resilience, and wonderful sense of humour defined her life. She will be missed beyond words—for the long heart-felt conversations, the guidance she offered, and the comfort of knowing she was always there to listen.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Thea’s wishes, no formal service will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Sarnia & District Humane Society (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
