With his beloved girls by his side, Raymond Vandenberghe passed away peacefully at the age of 85, on Wednesday, August 27th, 2025, at North Lambton Lodge in Forest. Ray is survived by his two daughters, Cindy McLean (Doug Schumacher) and Cherie (Dave) Beatty and their mother, Beatrice Branton, and his only grandson Nicky Beatty (Abigail Huisman), as well as his loyal friend Wilma Tichenoff.

Ray was the second youngest of 10 children and ultimately the last lone survivor. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Eugenie Vandenberghe, his sister, Rose Passingham, and his brothers, Gus, Basil, Joseph, Louie, Albert, Felix, Richard, and Camiel, as well as his second wife, Ann Vandenberghe.

Anyone who knew Ray knew that his pride and joy were his two daughters, and he would tell anyone he met all about them. He was the proud Papa of his only grandchild, Nicky, whom he loved to brag about. Ray was a strong man with an even stronger personality; he always ran his own ship and spoke his mind, even when he should have used his inside voice. He fought hard but loved even harder, right until the end. He was an incredibly hard worker, a value he instilled in his family. He farmed, drove a cement truck for CBM, flipped houses, sold firewood, fixed appliances, and gardened. Ray loved to work!

Ray’s family would like to thank all of the staff at North Lambton Lodge for their incredible patience and care.

Cremation has taken place, and a private family burial will occur at a later date.
Remembrances and condolences may be expressed to the family online in “Ray’s Guestbook” at mccormackfuneralhomesarnia.com.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimer Society or The Sarnia Humane Society.
