In God’s timing, Herman Vanderlinde passed away on August 20, 2025, at the age of 61. Beloved son of John (2006) and Wilma (2018) Vanderlinde. Dearly loved brother of Ralph (Alice), Margaret (Art), Janet (Henk), Marie (Jack), Ray (Cheryl), Bill (Kathy), and Barb (Randy). Herman is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Herman faced many challenges and personal struggles in his life. Despite these hardships, he remained a beloved person to those who knew him, and will be deeply missed, especially by his seven siblings. He is remembered for his kindness to others in need, his appreciation for simple joys like a hot 4×4 coffee or a warm meal, and his love and loyalty to his family even in the toughest times.
There will be a private family funeral and graveside service.
The family wishes to thank all who reached out to help and support Herman in a variety of ways, whether that was simply a kind word, a cup of coffee, or the many gift cards received. We also wish to recognize and express our appreciation to those in our community whose work supported him in his struggles. The family encourages those who knew him to honor his memory by extending kindness to others.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Herman’s memory can be made to the Inn of the Good Shepherd or the John Howard Society (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
“This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and Only Son into the world that we might be saved. This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sin.” 1 John 4:9,10
