Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Trillium Villa, John “Les” Lester Wemple passed away at the age of 77. Beloved husband of Jill Wemple. Loving father of Brenda (Kerry) Maguire, Karen Brown, Lauri (Steve) Bretschnieder, and Matthew (Jennifer) Wemple. Cherished grandfather of Timothy Maguire, Jonathan Maguire, Kent Edwards, Brandon Bretscnider (Jackeline), Kathryn Wemple, Jenna Wemple, Gillian Wemple, and Sean Wemple. Dear brother of Mary (Jim) Powell. Predeceased by his parents Vernon and Mary Wemple.
Les loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing or hiking. In the summer months, he worked on the farm with his best friend and cousin Jim Stevenson. Les loved animals and especially dogs. When Les was with friends, he would often be the jokester of the group and they would play darts, listen to music, and just have a great time dancing. Les will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Les’ wishes, a private graveside will be held. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
