Kathryn Lucille Zylstra, beloved best friend and wife of Mark Zylstra, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on July 2, 2024. She was the loving Mother of Derek Brooks (Dana) and Krystie Letang (Alan), and cherished Nana of Ayden and Aiva. Kathryn was preceded in death by her proud parents Charles and Helen Emery and is survived by her brothers Chris Emery (Julie), Jeff Emery, Todd Emery, Eric Emery (Margaret), and her nieces and nephews Jennifer (Joe), Chuck, Samantha, Erin (Bryce), Natalie, and Great-Nephews William and James Thede. Loving stepmother to Jennifer, Elisha, and Sara.
Kathryn found immense joy in life's simple pleasures, nurturing a deep passion for gardening, and embarking on memorable road trips with Mark. She enchanted audiences with her involvement in figure skating, where she proudly served as a pro at Mooretown Figure Skating Club for many years. She had an innate talent for creativity, whether it be through her skillful decorating or blooming garden.
Kathryn celebrated her passion for Hockey throughout her life. She found great happiness in watching and cheering (Skate!) her grandchildren on the ice m, enthusiastically supporting her son-in-law‘s journey as a player and coach. Her unwavering dedication made her their #1 fan. Above all, Kathryn's infectious laughter was her trademark. She had a remarkable ability to uplift others, finding solace in bringing smiles and laughter to those around her. Her warm spirit and genuine kindness endeared her to friends and strangers alike, positively impacting everyone she met.
Kathryn Lucille Zylstra will be fondly remembered with a smile, forever celebrated for her compassionate nature and her ability to find humor in any situation. Her legacy of joy and laughter will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know and laugh with her. A special thank you to the Stratford surgical floor nurses and Sarnia Palliative Care nurses for their incredible compassion and help along the way.
A celebration of Kathryn's life will be held on a later date for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Liver Foundation or Bluewater Palliative Care. Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
