The presence of NCAA-bound players is one of the most exciting aspects of this year's camp. Due to recent NCAA eligibility rule changes, players who once avoided Canadian Hockey League (CHL) camps can now participate without sacrificing their college hockey future. This change has caught the attention of OHL teams and even the media. It might even become a betting market for the local Canadian bookmaker sites.

Sarnia Sting Camp: Top Attendees

Among the 45 players, fans could see the recent OHL draft picks and undrafted free agents. Joseph Sinclair, a standout from the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) came into camp as a free agent after not being selected in the 2023 OHL Draft. His story caught the attention of fans and staff alike.

Sinclair, just 17, has always stayed committed to Bowling Green State University. He doesn’t want to miss the opportunity to attend the Sting’s development camp. If the rule change didn’t happen, he wouldn’t go for the OHL because the NCAA was his absolute priority all his life.

Sinclair’s recent performance in the OJHL made him one of the top rookies in the league. He earned 61 points in 53 games with the Burlington Cougars. For a player once overlooked, his presence at the Sting camp was a serious statement. He proved to be ready to compete at the highest level.

The camp also featured Kase Kamzik, an eighth-round pick in the 2025 OHL Draft and a commit to Miami University (Ohio). He also represents a new generation of players delivering every opportunity available, whether in the CHL or NCAA. This shift wasn't lost on general manager Dylan Seca, who noted that in previous years, NCAA-committed players usually stayed away from OHL camps to preserve eligibility. But not anymore. “The market has changed,” Seca said.

Sarnia Sting Camp: What’s New This Year?

This year’s development camp was widely praised for its intensity and competitive spirit. Held over two days, it featured private meetings and testing. Players were split into three teams—Team Stamkos, Team Kyrou, and Team Konecny. The action-packed tournament culminated in a final game between the top two teams. Fans could take a glimpse into the organization’s structure and other nuances.

Seca described this year’s gathering as “the most competitive development camp” in his time with the franchise. With every draft pick from the past two years in attendance, the stakes were much higher.

Beckham Edwards was a 2024 draftee who had a breakout season and was named to the OHL All-Rookie Second Team. He attended the camp and even made a small speech. Though he didn’t skate due to fitness testing protocols, his recognition signals a bright future.

Also in the spotlight was Chase Sewell, the Sting’s third-round pick this year. He signed a deal with the Strathroy Rockets (GOJHL) after being praised as “the most improved player in the province.” Players like Sewell contribute to the Sting’s ability to build from the back end with big, mobile defenders.

Other Changes to the Sarnia Sting Camp

Beyond the players, there were other changes off the ice as well. Blair Hennessey joined the team as a new therapist, bringing experience from the London Nationals (GOJHL). As the dust settles from the 2025 Development Camp, one thing is clear: the Sarnia Sting are moving toward success. The club is embracing a broader talent pool and adapting to a hockey world where pathways to the pros are more varied and interconnected than ever. The camp served as a learning opportunity for players who will now prepare for the main training camp with renewed ambition and motivation.

Hockey fans can take a close look at the available prospects. Who are the players to join the hockey club in the future? Seeing players like Joseph Sinclair approaching the club is a dream come true. Let’s see what decisions will be made by Sarnia Sting in the years to come.
