Organizers of the storied Bayview Mackinac Race have announced their leadership team for the 2026 event, as registration numbers already show high demand from the Great Lakes sailing community. Within days of the registration window opening on January 19, more than 145 boats have already signed up to participate in the 102nd running of the race.
Mica Reardon will serve as the 2026 Race Chair, leading a volunteer team responsible for the July 18 start in Port Huron. Reardon, who joined the sailing community in 2018, is a marketing professional with the Detroit Pistons and has previously managed several regional regattas.
Joining her is Peter Gerard, who has been appointed as the Principal Race Officer for the 2026 and 2027 races. A resident of Rhode Island and Texas, Gerard brings extensive experience from US Sailing and the International 12 Metre Association.
For Sarnians and residents of Lambton County, the event remains a highlight of the summer season. Spectators typically gather along both the U.S. and Canadian shorelines to watch the fleet travel from the Black River into Lake Huron for the starting line. Local entries often include familiar vessels from the Sarnia Yacht Club, such as the J/105 Joyride, which has been a regular competitor in recent years.
The Bayview Mackinac Race has been held annually since 1925, continuing through global conflicts and economic shifts. While the 100th anniversary in 2024 saw a record 350 boats, the race typically draws a fleet of approximately 200 vessels each year.
Participants and fans can follow the progress of the fleet through a live race-tracking program during the event. More information regarding registration and the 2026 course can be found at the official race website.
