The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame is calling on the community to nominate local athletes, builders, and teams for the Class of 2026 before the April 30 deadline.

The Sarnia-Lambton Sports Hall of Fame is officially accepting nominations for its 2026 class of inductees. Residents have until April 30 to submit the names of individuals or teams who have made a significant impact on the local sporting landscape.
Nominations are open across several traditional categories, including amateur athlete, professional athlete, builder, team, and special achievement. The "builder" category recognizes those who have contributed to the establishment or maintenance of a sport through coaching, executive work, or officiating.
In addition to the primary categories, the Hall is seeking nominees for several specialized legacy awards. These include the Bud Haveling award for contributions in areas like media and training, and the Earl MacKenzie award for those involved in sports for at least three decades.
Youth advocates and community leaders are also highlighted through the Bud Morrison and Rose Hodgson awards. The former recognizes significant contributions to youth sporting endeavours, while the latter focuses on outstanding contributions to the broader community through sport.
Specialized recognition continues with the Jack Isom award for international and Olympic participation, and the Joe DeRush award, which honours the achievements of athletes with disabilities. Students entering post-secondary education are eligible for the Pappy Burr award.
Submissions must be supported by documented evidence of the nominee’s accomplishments. Detailed criteria and nomination forms are available through the Hall of Fame's official channels.
Completed nominations should be sent to Hall of Fame president Pete Coenjarts. He can be reached at 519-542-4095 or via email at [email protected].
The 2026 induction banquet is scheduled to take place on Oct. 17 at the Dante Club in Sarnia. This annual event serves as a formal celebration of the region's rich athletic history and the people who have shaped it.
