Local athlete Sue Weir dominated the 70-74 age category at the Ontario Masters Swimming Championships, setting three new provincial records and earning medals in every event she entered.

Sarnia swimmer Sue Weir delivered a record-breaking performance at the Ontario Masters Swimming Championships held in Etobicoke from April 17-19. Competing in the 70-74 age category, Weir solidified her status as one of the province’s elite masters athletes by breaking three Ontario records during the meet.
Weir’s precision in the backstroke events was a highlight of the championships. She set a new provincial mark in the 50m backstroke before successfully breaking and then re-breaking the Ontario record for the 100m backstroke. These performances contributed to a perfect gold medal sweep in the 50m, 100m, and 200m backstroke events.
In addition to her success in the backstroke, Weir demonstrated her versatility across multiple disciplines. She secured further gold medals in the 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly, and added a silver medal to her tally in the 50m butterfly. Her consistent excellence throughout the year was recognized with a high points award for the 2025-2026 meet season.
The championship results serve as a momentum builder for Weir as she prepares for national competition. She is scheduled to represent Sarnia-Lambton at the Canadian Masters Swimming Championships in Windsor, taking place from May 22-24. Her recent performance marks a significant achievement for local athletics and highlights the high level of talent within the community's senior sports programs.
