Wrestlers shine at OFSSA

Seven students from Sarnia had top-six finishes at the recent all-Ontario high school wrestling championship.

Nathan McMillan of Saint Francois-Xavier led the way with a second-place finish in the boys’ 44-kilogram class at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations event in Windsor.

The 17-year-old recently won the Ontario Juvenile Wrestling Championships in Sudbury in the 46-kilogram class, and had victories at both the Lambton Kent and Southwestern Ontario high school tournaments.

St. Clair had three wrestlers score top-six finishes and SCITS had a pair.

Taryn Robinson of SCITS was third in the girls’ 77 kg group, while on the boys side teammate Cole Anderson had a fifth-place finish in the 130 kg class.

From St. Clair, Adam Vanderslagt was third in the boys’ 41 kg class and Elijah Wright sixth in the 67.5 kg class. On the girls’ side, Lauren Ellenor placed fifth in 51 kg group.

Northern’s Aleah Boersma also finished fourth in the girls’ 83 kg group.
