Robert Hughes of the Sarnia Athletics Southwest Track and Field Club is leaving competitive para-sport on the highest of notes.

Hughes, who announced his retirement from competition before the Canadian Track and Field Championships in Edmonton earlier this month, promptly went out and won a gold medal in the Men’s Para Seated Javelin at the national event.

“Thank you Canada for allowing me to represent this wonderful country,” he wrote on Facebook. “It has been an honour and privilege.”
