Mike Weir has joined the greatest athletes in the nation’s history by being was named to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. The Bright’s Grove native and St. Clair Secondary School grad was an all-round athlete who honed his golfing skills at Huron Oaks.

After attending Brigham Young University in the U.S. he joined the Canadian Tour and was named Rookie of the Year in 1993.

He joined the PGA Tour in 1998 and went on to win eight titles over five years and career earnings of $28 million.

In 2003, Weir became the first Canadian to win the prestigious Masters Tournament, ensuring his name will always be among golf’s greatest.

Weir was a part of an impressive list of inductees named to the Sports Hall of Fame in Toronto last week that included six-time Olympic speed skating medalist Cindy Klassen, NHL great Lanny McDonald and Olympic triathlon champion Simon Whitfield.
