Temperatures are forecasted to drop to -15 C overnight, prompting health officials to warn residents and prepare local shelters for increased demand.

Lambton County’s Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Karalyn Dueck, has issued a Cold Weather Alert for the region based on the latest forecast. Environment Canada predicts overnight temperatures will reach the threshold of -15 C.
The alert is effective immediately and is expected to remain in effect until Sunday, January 25, 2026. Officials noted that a specific termination notice will not be issued when the alert ends.
Lambton Public Health (LPH) has advised local agencies that assist individuals experiencing homelessness to prepare for an increase in demand for shelter and support.
If you or someone you know is experiencing homelessness, support is available through Lambton County Social Services at 519-344-2062. This line is monitored between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
For assistance outside of these business hours, residents should contact the Good Shepherd’s Lodge at 519-344-1679.
Residents are advised to limit time spent outdoors and take precautions by dressing in layers. It is important to shield exposed areas from the wind, including the head, neck, and face.
Overexposure to cold can be hazardous. Hypothermia occurs when the body's temperature drops below the normal range. Symptoms may include pale skin, lethargy, confusion, excessive shivering, and hallucinations.
