Solange Valentine De Meyer passed away peacefully, surrounded by loving family, on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Bear Creek Terrace, just after celebrating her 86th birthday.

She was the beloved wife of Norman De Meyer for 69 loving years and a devoted mother to Marlene De Meyer, Mark De Meyer, Maureen Czuczman (Patrick Blake), and Michelle De Meyer (the late Ernest Unsworth).

Solange was a cherished grandmother to Mark (Emily) Czuczman, Kevin (Marija) Czuczman, Luke (Marcela) Czuczman, Michael Somlai (Lex Leonard), and Solange Somlai, and a treasured great-grandmother to Elijah Mansaray, Colin Czuczman, Alice Czuczman, and Malcolm Somlai. Her family meant everything to her, and her love for them was constant and unconditional.

She was predeceased by her parents, Fermin and Elza (Rosalie) Van Den Berge, and her son-in-law, Paul Czuczman.

Solange was a farmer’s wife whose life was deeply rooted in home, family, and love. She was an amazing cook, especially known for her homemade, delicious apple pies — a staple of family gatherings and warm memories. One of her favourite pastimes was browsing garage sales, where she delighted in discovering an abundance of hidden gems and antiques.

Solange had a keen sense of fashion and style and always took pride in looking her best. She was also known for her witty sense of humour, which brought lightness and laughter to everyone around her. She will be fondly remembered for her warmth, her sharp wit, and the joy she brought into the lives of those who knew her.

We sure will miss you, Mom.

She was a devoted and active member of St. Michael’s Church, where her faith and community were very important to her.

Cremation has taken place. In keeping with Solange’s wishes, a private family service has been held.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to Parkinson’s Canada or the Canadian Cancer Society (cheques only at the funeral home, please). Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.smithfuneralhome.ca
