Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on December 25, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, Paul Cornelis Toenders passed away at the age of 74. Beloved husband of Barbara Toenders. Loving father of Paul and Helen Toenders and Jason and Lisa Toenders. Cherished grandpa of Vanessa, Nicholas, Sullivan and Levi. Treasured brother of John and Nel Hurst, Arnold and Annie Toenders, Cinth Toenders, Mike and Heather McLeod, Martin and Linda Toenders and Larry and Liz Prince and brother-in-law of Bob and Pat Rosina. Predeceased by his parents Arnold and Nellie Toenders. Paul dedicated many years of hard work at Fiberglass and Suncor, earning the respect of colleagues and friends alike. His passion for cars led him to become a lifetime member of the Sarnia Street Machines. Paul volunteered for over 40 years with Silver Stick, generously giving his time to support youth hockey. Summers were spent camping at Orchard View Park, where he cherished trailer life and spending time with friends. Paul had a love of travel and enjoyed visiting new places. Whether at home or away, he was always happiest in the corner of the rink, watching sports—a familiar and comforting presence to those who knew him. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Lebert and Dr. MacSweeney for their care and compassion for Paul. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. with words of tribute spoken at 5:00 p.m. Sympathy may be expressed through donations to St. Joseph’s Hospice or Bluewater Health Oncology (cheques only at the funeral home please).
