It is with love in our hearts and gratitude for the journey we shared, we announce the passing of Helga Laforet, on Dec. 6th, 2024, at Bluewater Health.
She is survived by her daughter, Cathy and son in law, Larry.
She loved spending time with her grandchildren, Jason Rice (Janice) and Rachel Thompson.
Her great granddaughters, Emily, Brianna, Meghan and Erin were a bright light in her life. She totally enjoyed watching them grow into such amazing teenagers. She leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Her parents, Anton and Herta Friedeberg, husband Alfred Laforet, son Raymond and her sister Monica, along with several other family members and friends were waiting for her to join them. I’m sure the party is still going on. Dancing anyone?
Helga worked for Miracle Mart in Sarnia, when they opened their doors. She quickly went on to become head bookkeeper. When she was asked to transfer to the Orillia store, my parents jumped at the chance to cross off an item off their bucket list, to retire in Gods Country. They purchased and renovated a house on the lake and entertained many family members and friends over the years.
Eventually they moved back to be closer to family.
Helga made friends easily and everyone loved her caring and compassionate way. She put others ahead of herself and always looked out for everyone. Several friends remained in her life through the decades and through life’s joys and sorrows.
Janice and Wade, Marie and Amy, your love and support will always be remembered. We couldn’t have managed this journey as smoothly without you. She loved you more than you know.
Her love of travel never waned, even after Dad passed, and Karen helped her fulfill this passion by accompanying her on several vacations over the years.
I’d like to thank everyone of her friends through the years, the staff and residents at Wellings, and the staff and residents at Rosewood (who won her over and got her to stay happily). You were amazing to both Mom and I, and she enjoyed each and every one of you.
Special thanks to the staff that took care of Mom at Bluewater Health. Your compassion, caring and skills will always be remembered.
Mom, you will forever be in our hearts and we rejoice that your journey ended on your terms.
A celebration of life will take place in the nicer weather.
Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
