Charles worked for Dow Chemical for 37 years starting as an electrician and holding several supervisory jobs, retiring in 1985. He lived his entire life in Moore Township and was very active in its development and community. He was the Chairman of the Moore Township School Board in 1963 when the central schools were built in Brigden and Mooretown, then was on Moore Township council in 1965 and 1966 when Centennial Park was planned, and the lands were purchased where the Moore Sports Complex, the Township Office and the St. Clair Parkway Golf Course now sit. In 1968, he chaired the committee that raised funds for the construction of the original Mooretown Arena, and then co-chaired the committee to raise funds for the Moore Sports Complex in 1975. In 1986 he was elected Reeve of Moore Township and served two three-year terms before retiring in 1992. During that time municipal water lines were installed for most of the residents of Moore Township, the Moore Industrial Park was established on Petrolia Line, and the present Township Office was built. He also served on the Sarnia / Clearwater / Lambton Implementation Committee in 1989 and 1990. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Mooretown since 1953, and elder and clerk-of-session from 1964 to 2008. In 1977 he was a founding member of the Moore Presbyterian Foundation, which built Thompson Gardens in 1981. He was treasurer for many years and has lived with Isobel in the building since 2014. Charlie had a deep interest in sports, and coached and managed many minor hockey and ball teams in the local area. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and Toronto Maple Leafs fan all of his life and was encouraged by the current prospects of his beloved Detroit Lions.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bluewater Health for their exceptional and compassionate care.
