The Aamjiwnaang First Nation has posted private property signs along the St. Clair River to prevent non-band members from fishing there.
In a release, Chief Joanne Rogers said the band has in the past allowed non-community members to fish from the shoreline and docks.
“Unfortunately, the increased usage of our shoreline by non-members has resulted in issues with littering, vehicles driving up and down the riverbank, causing damage to the landscape and overcrowding on the docks,” the release states.
The First Nation said it has asked the Natural Resources Ministry to monitor fishing licences and will have security patrolling the area.
