The question of how much Sarnia must pay to cover the legal fees of River City Vineyard has been left to the courts.

Sarnia lost a recent decision in which the Ontario Appeal Court found a men’s homeless shelter River City operated but was forced to close had never contravened city bylaws.

Last week, the church offered to accept payment of $125,000 to cover its legal bills, but council backed a staff recommendation to let the court determine costs.

Council has yet to decide whether the city will take the next step and pursue the fight to the Supreme Court of Canada.
