German soccer fans rejoiced when their team downed Argentina to win the World Cup on July 13.

Sarnia’s Wilma Mehl, right, who emigrated from Germany three years ago, said she was amazed by the interest hockey-mad Canadians showed in soccer throughout the tournament, especially without a Canadian team to cheer for in Brazil.
