Gary Larkin, age 78, passed away on May 4, 2026.
Born on June 10, 1947, in Toronto, Gary moved to Sarnia at a young age, where he spent most of his life.
Gary worked at Metro Inc. for 42 years, a testament to his strong work ethic, loyalty, and perhaps a well-practiced routine. Outside of work, he was rarely idle. If something needed building, fixing, or creatively reimagining, Gary was your guy. Furniture, artwork, gnome houses—you name it, he made it.

He had a lifelong love of Harley Davidson, enjoying rides, road trips, and collecting enough Harley memorabilia to rival a small museum. When he wasn’t on the road, you could find him at home tending to his pond, proudly showing off his koi to anyone willing to admire them.

Gary kept his tastes simple and consistent: country music only—no exceptions—and a firm belief that technology was more trouble than it was worth.

He was predeceased by his brother Ted and sister Linda, half-brothers Bev and Bill Warwick, and his parents, Margaret Pepper and George Larkin.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Cathy of 21 years; his son Trevor (Robin); stepchildren Caity Kennedy (Nick), Colin Kennedy (Candra), and TJ Kennedy (Hayley); his brother Alex (Pam); and his grandchildren Holly, Ryelee, Henry, and Augie.

Gary will be reunited with his beloved dogs, Duncan and Paris, who are no doubt already enjoying the ultimate welcome-home.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Gary’s best friend, Ken Fournie and his wife Cathy, Dr. MacSweeney, and the Bluewater Palliative Team at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their care and compassion.

In keeping with Gary’s simple nature, there will be no visitation or funeral service. Cremation has taken place.
Gary will be remembered for his creativity, his independence, his stubborn streak, and his ability to make something out of nothing. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
