Dear Editor,
I agree with the writing of CAEH and would like to add my voice regarding our growing “housing crisis”
Across our community, we are seeing how deeply this crisis is affecting lives. More and more people are being pushed into homelessness, and far too many are struggling just to keep a roof over their heads. It feels like everyone is falling behind.
With the upcoming federal budget on November 4th, we have a real opportunity to come together and turn things around.
The only way to unlock Canada’s full economic and social potential is for our governments to take bold leadership—to end homelessness and solve the housing crisis once and for all.
The recent announcement of Build Canada Homes, with a $1 billion investment in supportive and transitional housing, is an important first step. But the scale of this crisis demands much more. We need a housing system that works for everyone, especially amid the uncertainty so many are facing.
Bold action—and even bolder commitments—can shape a future where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home. Let’s also look to countries that have successfully tackled these challenges. What can we learn from them, and from each other?
It’s tragic that we are at this point. Our federal representatives need to hear from all of us. We must have lasting change to end the housing and homelessness crisis.
I love my community, and I believe everyone deserves to be seen and supported. Too many people are without hope—unable to find housing they can afford or qualify for. Rent is too high, and the costs of food, transportation, and other necessities continue to rise. Even those who have housing are often just a paycheque away from losing it.
Despite promises of truly affordable housing, I’m seeing more luxury developments rising across our towns and cities.
For those managing well—please, also use your voice. Your neighbours are struggling, and your support truly matters.
We can no longer wait.
Let’s lead together with compassion, kindness, and courage. Let’s raise our collective voice for a bold 2025 Federal Budget that prioritizes real action on housing and homelessness.
