Dear Journal.
As a citizen resident of Sarnia, I want to share what I have learned and continue to learn about the treatment and lack thereof for our newcomers to our area. The misconception that they are here to simply take jobs away from locals, is one big myth. Many have come for education, and the absolute will to build a better life for themselves and family. Yet, many have found that society here does not give them the respect and understanding that all of them deserve. I am beyond thankful that I have been blessed to learn many of their personal stories, and the gut wrenching decisions that so many have had to make. Sacrifice's and horrors that we here have no ideas about. So rather than giving them rude comments disrespecting them and not giving them every opportunity to survive and succeed, is both a terrible injustice, and a complete failure of our societal values.
There is only one true group of people who do not have to claim their aboriginal rights. They and we know who they are. I therefore pose this question. Are we not also immigrants to this Country? I know where my ancestors came from and I now know my Heritages I fully acknowledge where I have come from and are going. Do you?
