Sarnia’s annual “Stand Up Against Poverty Rally” returns to the steps of City Hall on Friday, Oct. 13.

The rally features stories told by people who have experienced poverty and offers resources in the community that can help, along with comments from Mayor Mike Bradley, MP Marilyn Gladu and MPP Bob Bailey.

The one-hour rally organized by the local Poverty Reduction Network begins at 12 noon.

The following Monday, on Oct. 17, volunteers from food banks, schools and churches will be handing out “Chew on This” lunch bags containing an apple and postcard to engage people about hunger and the 4.9 million Canadians living in poverty.

Both events are planned to coincide with the United Nation’s International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, which began in 1993.
