IELTS testing now available at Lambton College, meeting a long-standing community need

Until now, Sarnia–Lambton residents had to travel outside the region for official English language testing.

Through a new partnership with ILSC Education Group, Lambton College has become an official venue for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. The move brings local access to English proficiency testing, a service previously unavailable in the region.

“Sarnia-Lambton had a need for an official English language testing centre well before the English proficiency test requirement announced last year by IRCC,” said Jami Kloet, Communications and Public/Media Relations Specialist at Lambton College. “Prior to this, any individuals who required an official English proficiency test, such as temporary or permanent residents, needed to travel outside our region. The option to have the test administered locally provides a service to our community that was previously not available.”

While the federal government’s new English testing requirement for Post-Graduate Work Permit (PGWP) applications — introduced in November 2024 — adds urgency, the addition of a local test centre responds to broader community demand. Many residents, including newcomers and international students, previously had to access IELTS testing in larger urban centres such as London or Windsor.

The IELTS exam is recognized by more than 10,000 organizations around the world and is widely used for immigration, education, and employment purposes. Lambton College now offers both the Academic and General Training versions of the test.

More information on test dates, registration, and preparation resources is available through the official ILSC IELTS website.
