Sarnia receives $83,437 from OLG for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia
The quarterly payment brings the city’s total gaming revenue since 1999 to nearly $28.5 million, funding that officials say supports local infrastructure and services.

The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) has made a first-quarter payment of $83,437 to the City of Sarnia for hosting Gateway Casinos Sarnia. The payment covers the period from April 1 to June 30.
Since the casino opened in May 1999, Sarnia has received a total of $28,497,414 in host community payments. The payments are calculated using a formula applied consistently across all gaming sites in Ontario, based on a graduated scale tied to gaming revenue generated at the site.
Bob Bailey, Member of Provincial Parliament for Sarnia-Lambton, said the funding allows Sarnia to invest in infrastructure and support critical community services. He said provincial revenues from the casino help improve quality of life for families across Ontario.
Since 1994, host communities across the province have received more than $2.4 billion in non-tax gaming revenue. OLG says the payments are part of its broader commitment to reinvest 100 per cent of its profits back into Ontario, supporting economic development, infrastructure, and job creation.
Over the past decade, service providers have invested more than $3 billion in private sector capital across the province. That investment has led to seven new casinos, two large-scale resort developments and expansions, and numerous gaming floor and non-gaming amenity expansions.
OLG is a Crown agency that manages land-based gaming facilities, province-wide lottery games, internet gaming, and bingo and electronic gaming products at Charitable Gaming Centres in Ontario. The organization also supports the province's horse racing industry. Since 1975, OLG says it has generated approximately $64 billion for the province, supporting priorities including health care, problem gambling treatment and prevention, and amateur athletics. Profits also support host communities, Ontario First Nations, lottery retailers, and local charities.
