Sarnia earned the top rank of ‘five blooms’ at the international Communities in Bloom awards Sept. 20 in Charlottetown, PEI.

The city edged rival Chatham-Kent and finished second in its size category, which was won by a borough of London, England with a population of 200,000.

Sarnia was invited to the international competition for the first time after winning a national title last year.

Communities are judged on tidiness, environmental action, heritage, trees and their community involvement among other things.

The “amazing” floral displays in Centennial Park really wowed the judges, said Anne Marie Gillis, who chairs the city’s community in blooms committee.

“Everyone in Sarnia should be very proud of our accomplishments,” she said.
