A dead crow in Sarnia’s north end has tested positive for West Nile virus.
Lambton Public Health said the bird was found June 5 and test results received June 12.
It is the first confirmation in 2015 of the virus, which is spread to people and animals through the bite of infected mosquitos.
To reduce the risk of infection wear protective, light-coloured clothing and wear a repellant containing DEET when mosquitoes are around.
Drying up standing water by keeping eavestroughs clear and frequently changing birdbaths can help reduce mosquito-breeding areas.
