Moira Milne Elsley passed suddenly but peacefully on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at the age of 86. She was an amazing person. She raised 5 children; providing us with unconditional love and taught us excellent values.
She started Lambton Elderly Outreach in Petrolia, demonstrating her compassion and concern for others and was later seconded by the provincial government to help start similar programmes throughout Southwestern Ontario.
Mom was a gifted artist – playing the guitar and singing, acting in various Victoria Playhouse Petrolia plays and later becoming an accomplished painter.
Her daughters spent her last afternoon singing songs from our childhood and holding her hands. At one point, mom regaled them with a Carol Burnett refrain singing, “I’m so glad we had this time together” complete with a gentle tug of her ear lobe. Her passing could not have been scripted any better.
Thank you, Mom, for everything. We will keep you close in our hearts and remember you always.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Those who wish to honour her memory can do so through donations to St Joseph’s hospice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
Memories and condolences may be sent online at www.smithfuneralhome.ca.
