Peacefully, surrounded by loving family on Monday, October 19, 2026, at Bluewater Health, Joseph Patrick Kerwin passed away at the age of 92.

Beloved husband of the late Margaret Kerwin and the late Marion McPhee. He is survived by his brother William “Bill” Kerwin, and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Joe dearly. He will also be missed by many friends and former band members.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Joseph Kerwin, his sisters Cathy Maginn, Jean Durocher, and Margaret Kadey, as well as his in-laws, Douglas Maginn, Dave Durocher, Mary (Pat) Kerwin, and Doreen Kerwin.

From a very young age Joe’s dream was to be a country music singing cowboy, and he certainly did his best to live up to that. He spent a lifetime enjoying music, playing the guitar and singing in his band the Tumbleweeds. It was rare to find him far from a stringed instrument, but if he was he was always tapping out a tune on the closest hard surface. Joe loved sports and remained active well into his seventies. He was a long-standing member of the RCAF 403 wing in Sarnia for many years, playing an instrumental role in bringing the plane installation in Germain Park to fruition. Up to the day of his passing, and for many years, Joe was also a Knights of Columbus member with his local church, St. Benedict’s. Additionally, he was a standing member of the UA Local 663 Union, having recently received his 70 year pin.

The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Marshall Gowland Manor and the hospital staff at Bluewater Health for their care these past few years. His family was comforted in knowing that he was at peace in his last days, and that he was adored by the MGM staff. A very special thanks to Dewayne Evans and Lou Cicchini for being best friends to Joe in his final years, as well as his niece Kimberly Cicchini for being a dedicated caregiver for the last 3 years.

Cremation has taken place. An open house will be held at Smith Family Centre, 1576 London Line, Sarnia, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. A burial of ashes will take place at a later date, where he will be laid to rest beside his first wife Margaret.

Joe’s wish would be to help each other out. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the local charity of your choice (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Memories and condolences may be sent online at www.smithfuneralhome.ca.
