It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Gregory MacNeill on July 12, 2025, in his 87th year.

Doug was the devoted husband of 65 years to Patricia, his constant companion and truest friend. He was a cherished father to Greg, Scott, and Maureen; a beloved grandfather to Trent Fulcher (Madison), Kate MacNeill (Houston), and Amanda Debot (Matt); and a proud great-grandfather to Andrew, Daniel, Ava, Blake, and Jade. He now joins his dear grandson Tyler MacNeill in eternal rest.

Born in Grass Cove, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, Doug was the son of the late Daniel and Marion MacNeill. He was also predeceased by several brothers and sisters, whose memories he carried with quiet reverence. Doug served his country with honour as a Marine Officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and later safeguarded his community as a firefighter with Dow Chemical.

A craftsman of rare ability, Doug had a gift for creating not only objects of beauty and purpose, but legacies of care and attention. Whether carving a cane, restoring a timeworn clock, or building something no one else could, he brought quiet excellence to everything he touched.

He was, to us, a hero. A man of steady hands and kind eyes. A patient soul who led by example, taught without boasting, and loved without condition.

He will be missed beyond words, remembered with every sunrise, and honoured in the quiet moments where strength and gentleness meet.

Our appreciation to the staff at Afton Villa for the care and kind attention provided for Doug.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia. Sympathies may be expressed through donations to the Alzheimers Society (cheques only at the funeral home, please).
