Joanne Elizabeth Marshall (née Moore) passed away peacefully on January 25, 2026, in Petrolia, Ontario, at the age of 81, following a yearlong illness.
Born on January 24, 1945, in Windsor, Ontario, Joanne was the daughter of Irene Moore (née Hurst) and Douglas Moore. She was predeceased by her sister, Barbara.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years, William; daughter, Jennifer; grandchildren, Reese and Rowan; and nieces, Bonnie and Beverly.
Joanne possessed a luminous intellect and a discerning eye, qualities that informed both her professional life and her creative pursuits. A lifelong educator, she devoted more than three decades to teaching English-related disciplines, including literature, drama, and written communications. She approached language as both craft and calling, with exacting standards and deep respect for its power.
Her parallel devotion to the arts was marked by seriousness of purpose and personal pride. An accomplished artist and writer, she composed children’s poetry and, in 2017, published Brambleby Bear: A Chef in New York, a work reflecting her imagination, and literary mind.
The family extends sincere thanks to the staff at London Victoria Hospital, Bluewater Health Sarnia, the nurses with CarePartners, and Lambton Meadowview Villa for their care and compassion.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Humane Society and The Salvation Army, organizations that were close to her heart.
