Peacefully at home, on Thursday, May 22, 2025, William James Edward “Jim” Maw went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 86. Beloved husband of Gloria (d. Aug 2006) and Ingrid (d. Aug 2015). He will be dearly missed by his companion, Marian McLeod, and her extended family. Father to Jim (Jean), Graham (Beth), and Brian (Susan). Grandfather of Andrew, Kevin, Chad, and Ian; Luke (Sarah) and Matthew (Kenzie); and Haiden (Rachelle) and Evan. Adored by great grandchildren Braelynn, Brynlee, Ezra, and Elowyn. Dear brother to Betty Ann (Bob Shortreed) and loving brother-in-law to Sharon. Jim will be missed by cousin Bill “Billy” Mollitor (Lynda), as well as by a number of nieces and nephews and their families. Predeceased by brother Morley, and parents Alvin and Florence Maw.
Jim was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church, Sarnia, where he made lasting friendships and served God faithfully over the years. He was employed by Imperial Oil in Sarnia as a boilermaker, working long shifts and lots of overtime to support a young family. Jim enjoyed vacations to Florida, spent time at the trailer in Arizona and in Huntsville at MBC, and even took a couple of trips overseas to Holland. In each of these places, there was always fun to be had and deep friendships to be made. Until his passing, Jim remained in his own home surrounded by a supportive community of caring, compassionate neighbours and friends. He spent his days tending to his beautiful gardens, chatting with neighbours, running errands for himself and for others in his car, and he spent hours reading his Bible in an armchair by the fireplace. He will be sorely missed by all whose lives he touched.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at Temple Baptist Church, 1410 Quinn Drive, Sarnia, on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. with family and friends being received one hour prior from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Lakeview Cemetery, 1016 Colborne Rd, Sarnia at 11:30 a.m.
If desired, sympathy may be expressed through donations to Youth Unlimited YFC Sarnia-Lambton, (cheques only at the funeral home please). Arrangements entrusted to Smith Funeral Home, 1576 London Line, Sarnia.
